Finalists Chosen for Salt Spring National Art Prize
The 52 finalists for the Salt Spring National Art Prize Society have been chosen from amongst 2,158 entrants.
The finalists will exhibit their work on Salt Spring Island, B.C., from Sept. 23 to Oct. 23, with prizes announced at a closing gala on Oct. 21.
"The artists chosen are exploring their personal and social place, reinventing themselves as artists and re-evaluating the role of art in today's times," said Ronald Crawford, the prize's founding director. "I cannot wait to see the actual work."
The finalists were selected by an independent jury composed of Kwakwaka'wakw artist Richard Hunt, Montreal gallerist Pierre-François Ouellette, independent Vancouver curator Helga Pakasaar and Gaëtane Verna, former director of the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto.
