Fredericton's Beaverbrook Art Gallery Places Entire Collection Online
The public can now enjoy the Beaverbrook Art Gallery's collection of nearly 5,000 works online – including some pieces that have never been placed on view before.
"Going through the entire collection during the pandemic allowed us the privilege of digitizing the collection so we could share it, but it also led us to discover many artworks that were all but hidden to viewers," says John Leroux, manager of collections and exhibitions.
"All of the beloved artworks are here, but so are several thousand works that have never been seen by the public."
The digitization project, which the Fredericton institution started during the pandemic, also includes activities for children and animated Kidoons videos that feature Joe Otter and his pal, Billy Mink, visiting the gallery, in both English and French.
The project saw the curatorial team review, document and photograph the entire permanent collection, including paintings, sketches, prints, photographs and sculptures.
The browsable database can be accessed through the gallery’s website.
