Canadian freelance writer and former Galleries West intern Joseph Paris has won gold in the Emerging Writer category at the 2024 Alberta Magazine Publishers (AMPA) Association Awards for his essay, Revisiting a Loaded History.
Based in Vancouver, Paris worked at Galleries West from November 2022 to March 2023. He now focuses on writing about the arts, culture, history and the environment. He holds a bachelor of arts from the University of British Columbia and a journalism diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
AMPA is the uniting group for magazine publishers in Alberta. Since 1995, it has "supported magazines in Alberta and beyond through promotion, advancement, and practical programs that foster professional development and industry growth,” according to the organization's website.
