Galleries West is in the running for three Alberta Magazine Awards, which recognize contributions to the province's magazine industry.
The magazine is a finalist in the Digital Presence category for a special feature or website for the third time. It received Gold at the award's inauguration in 2013 and Silver in 2014.
Two Galleries West writers are among the eight finalists in the short feature writing category for a fact-based work of non-fiction of 2,000 words or less.
Nominated are Yellowknife writer Sarah Swan for A Beaded Universe, about Indigenous artist Margaret Nazon; and Murray Whyte, then the arts critic for the Toronto Star and now for the Boston Globe, for Facing the Monumental, a story about Vancouver-based Anishinaabe artist Rebecca Belmore's exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The winners will be announced at an awards gala in Calgary on April 4.
This year's special awards include:
Achievement in Publishing: As the 2019 winner, founder and publisher of Alberta Views, Jackie Flanagan joins 2014 winner Tom Tait, founder and publisher of Galleries West.
Editor of the Year: Nancy Cope is the only full-time staff member at LINK, the SAIT alumni magazine.
