Galleries West picked up Alberta Magazine Awards in two categories Thursday from the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association.
Former intern Megan Klak won gold in the Emerging Writer category for an article on mentorship, while Galleries West picked up a silver for Digital Presence for its website.
Galleries West was a finalist for seven awards, including three nods for videos about Vancouver artists Emily Hermant, Charlene Vickers and Nancy Boyd produced by Mark Mushet, a long feature about the history of art auctions in Western Canada by Edmonton's Curtis Gillespie, and a book review by Yellowknife writer Sarah Swan.
Meanwhile, Blackflash, a visual arts magazine, was named Saskatchewan Magazine of the Year.
The awards honour and celebrate the work of Alberta magazine creators, art directors, writers, photographers, editors and illustrators, as well as honouring magazines in other Western provinces.
Some 150 magazines and 100 scholarly journals are published in Alberta, delivering some 18 million copies to readers each year.
