The board of governors of the Emily Carr University of Art and Design have named Gillian Siddall as the university’s next president and vice-chancellor.
Siddall said she plans to work collaboratively to advance existing priorities around innovation, decolonization, social justice and trans-disciplinary learning, research and creative practice.
"There are a lot of exciting things happening at Emily Carr, and it will be wonderful to be part of that,” said Siddall.
She replaces Ron Burnett, the university's president since 1996.
Siddall, who holds a doctorate in English from the University of Western Ontario, served as vice-president academic and provost at the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto, where she led the academic planning process. She has also worked at Ontario's Lakehead University, serving as the dean of social sciences and humanities.
Her research area is Canadian literature, and she has published extensively on the subject of musical improvisation.
