Glenbow Closes for Renovations at End of August
The Glenbow in Calgary is closing for three years at the end of August, in order to redesign its 1970s-era building.
Aug. 29 is the last day to see the museum's exhibitions – including a popular Maud Lewis show – before the closure.
The new building design highlights accessibility and sustainability. The bones of the old museum will be retained, but the building's outer concrete shell will be removed.
“Calgary is ready for an art museum that draws the richest examples of human creativity to our community,” says Glenbow president Nicholas R. Bell.
In February, the museum will open a temporary exhibition space in downtown Calgary.
The new building will open in 2024. Go here for a complete timeline of the renovations.
