The Glenbow Museum will open a temporary satellite exhibition space in downtown Calgary in March. Located on the second Plus-15 skyway level of the Edison building, at 150 9th Ave. SW, it will operate until the museum's renovation is complete in 2024.
“We are repurposing some underused office space in one of downtown Calgary’s iconic office towers, to build a place where we can connect in-person with Calgarians and continue to share art and culture experiences while our own building is under renovation,” says Glenbow CEO Nicholas Bell.
Entry to the space will be free to the public throughout 2022.
The first exhibition in the new location, which will be known as Glenbow at the Edison, is Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists in the Modern Moment, a touring show of more than 200 works organized by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection near Toronto.
The space will be converted with specialized HVAC systems and climate controls to protect artworks and artifacts, with funding from the City of Calgary. The goal is for the space to remain a cultural facility after the Glenbow returns to its own building.
