The Fischer-Cuthbertson family has made a $1-million donation to Glenbow.
The new donation, announced last week, will be used to commission four art installations that will be part of Glenbow Reimagined.
“Our family wanted to be a part of making people feel that they have been considered — that their comfort, interests and learning are at the heart of the reimagined Glenbow and the creation of Glenbow's exhibitions,” said Joanne Cuthbertson in a news release.
“Awe-inspiring works that immediately capture your attention seemed to our family to be in keeping with the kind of welcoming place Glenbow is striving to be for its communities.”
The installations will be located throughout the first floor of the building.
Glenbow has raised $173 million so far toward its $205-million goal for Glenbow Reimagined, the project to renovate and modernize the museum’s 50-year-old, 312-000-square-foot building. The renovation of the main building, underway now, is set for completion in 2026 when it will become the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture.
Recent major donations include $1 million from George and Colleen Bezaire in August 2023; $3.5 million from Dave Werklund and Susan Norman-Werklund in October 2022; and $35 million from Calgary entrepreneur and philanthropist JR Shaw in February 2022.
