This summer the Art Gallery of Alberta partners with the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Charlottetown and The Rooms in St. Johns to bring The Great One to audiences across the nation with the new exhibition–Gretzky is Everywhere.
Four versions of the print will be shown in the Art Gallery of Alberta. One of these will be live streaming simultaneously with two others–one at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Charlottetown and the other at The Rooms in St. John’s–for the duration of the exhibition. Patrons will be able to see the four prints, as well as glimpses of other audience members and gallery spaces across vast distances and time zones. The focus of the exhibition includes the viewers themselves, whose interaction with the camera and works allows them their fifteen minutes of “fame” across the country, however they choose to use it.
“Gretzky is Everywhere provides us the opportunity to work with colleagues and collections across the country while celebrating an iconic Canadian figure,” says Laura Ritchie, Head of Exhibitions and Collections Management at the AGA.
“It's a national endeavour that brings arts institutions and celebrity fans alike together in the spirit of Andy Warhol's practice,” Richie says. This feeling of connection makes the cross-Canada collaboration a perfect way to foster feelings of Canadian connection in the country’s 150th year, as well as bringing Gretzky truly “everywhere.”
Gretzky is Everywhere runs from June 10 to September 24.
Curated by Mireille Egan and Pam Wendt. A collaboration between the Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton; Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Charlottetown; and The Rooms, St., Johns.
