Hill Strategies Research has released new data about key economic trends in the Canadian visual arts scene.
And it’s interesting.
Total visual arts revenues, including crafts and photography, were $14 billion in 2023 in Canada.
Craft revenues have grown by 80 per cent since 2012, according to Hill Strategies. “Crafts represent by far the largest share of revenues in the visual arts in 2023: $11.3 billion, or 80 per cent,” according to the news release.
“Next is photography, with $2.2 billion in revenues (15 per cent).”
“Original visual art represents $495 million or four per cent) of the market, while art reproductions are $99 million or 0.7 per cent of the market.”
These statistics exclude architecture, advertising and design, as well as all government-owned arts venues, funding, and support organizations, which are included in the very broad category of “governance, funding, and professional support,” according to the release.
