Human Rights Museum Releases Plan to Address Complaints
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg has released its plan for addressing staff complaints about systemic racism and discrimination at the institution.
The plan, which responds to the first phase of an independent external review, includes a variety of strategies to improve internal processes and policies.
Isha Khan, the museum’s CEO, says the plan is not a checklist of action items or a stand-alone solution, but a framework that focuses on desired outcomes and broad strategies to achieve them.
“We are approaching this thoughtfully and have been working hard to gather input from employees and the community," says Khan, who joined the museum in August after the resignation of former CEO John Young.
"Our approach must address systemic racism and discrimination in our workplace in a meaningful way. It cannot be window dressing. It will take a sustained effort over time.”
