Northern artists Caroline Blechert and Lavinia Van Heuvelen are travelling to Greenland to exhibit their work at the Nuuk Art Museum and participate in the Nuuk Nordisk Kulturfestival.
They will represent the Inuit Art Foundation at the festival, which runs from Oct. 7 to Oct. 13 in Nuuk.
Their travel is part of the foundation's circumpolar exchange program, which is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
Van Heuvelen, an emerging jeweller, moved to Iqaluit after high school and attended the Nunavut Arctic College. She works primarily with sterling silver and natural materials, often referring to Inuit themes and imagery.
Blechert is an award-winning Inuvialuk artist from Yellowknife. She creates intricate beaded works that merge traditions from her roots with contemporary design. Her diverse practice also includes photography.
Jewellery by Blechert and Van Heuvelen will be featured in Pinnersaat // Jewelry at the Nuuk Art Museum, a national institution founded in 2005, until December.
The Inuit Art Foundation represents Inuit artists in all artistic disciplines in Canada.
