Inuktitut Tours in the Works for Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq
The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq has signed a three-year agreement with the Manitoba Inuit Association that will support the province's Inuit community, including gallery tours in Inuktitut.
Other measures include mentorship, community gatherings and the creation of a working group to review descriptions of Inuit art in the gallery's permanent collection.
A statement released by the gallery says the two organizations share an interest in supporting the emotional, mental and spiritual well-being of Manitoba's Inuit community.
Stephen Borys, the gallery's director, says he is happy to expand opportunities for Inuit artists and the larger Inuit community.
"Inuktitut will be heard throughout the galleries, as is only fitting for Qaumajuq, home to thousands of works by brilliant Inuit artists."
