Ceramics artist Jennifer Wicks will lead the Canadian Crafts Federation, the voice of the country's craft artists, as its new executive director.
"I aspire to a world in which craft is a fulfilling profession and a sustainable career option," said Wicks, an educator, curator, author and administrator. "It is an honour to advocate for artist communities and an incredible opportunity to find myself within such an inspiring and impactful creative institution.”
Wicks has more than 25 years of experience in various artistic and educational institutions, including Concordia University and the Visual Art Centre, both in Montreal; the Maison des metiers d’art in Quebec City; and the University of Quebec in Outaouais.
Wicks, who has expertise in mentorship, outreach and program development, recently completed her doctorate in art education and serves on the board of the Canadian Society of Education Through Arts.
She will transition into the position on a part-time basis, with support from interim director Victoria Hutt, until the New Year.
