Jessica Groome New Curator at Art Gallery of Grande Prairie
The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie in Alberta has hired Jessica Groome as its new curator of exhibitions and collections.
Groome is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, educator and administrator, originally from Kamloops, B.C.
They have a masters degree in fine arts from the University of Guelph and a bachelor's degree from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver.
Over the past decade, Groome has been based in Berlin. Since 2018, they have been involved in programming at La Datcha, a garden project space and residency program.
"Jessica's ability to connect communities, their resourcefulness, and their firsthand understanding of the art-making process make them a valuable addition," the gallery said in a statement.
Groome, who started work June 1, is new to Grande Prairie and says she is looking forward to connecting with the the local Indigenous community and getting to know the region.
