Jocelyn Reid Wins $10,000 Ceramics Award
Calgary artist Jocelyn Reid is the winner of this year's $10,000 Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics. The award gives early career ceramic artists the freedom to spend time on independent research and advance their professional practice.
Reid is a ceramics technician at the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary and has participated in residencies at the Banff Centre and abroad in Montana and Denmark.
The jury noted that Reid's work “exhibits maturity, imagination and attention to detail.”
The other finalists were Matthew O’Reilly, of Calgary; Mitsuo Kimura, of Toronto; and Jessica Sallay-Carrington, of Montreal. The finalists, along with Reid and the 2020 winner, Joon Hee Kim, will be featured in an exhibition at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo, Ont., in September.
