John Hampton Appointed as Interim Director of the MacKenzie Art Gallery
John Hampton has been appointed as interim executive director and CEO of the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina, effective Aug. 1.
The news follows Anthony Kiendl’s recent appointment as the director of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Hampton has been the MacKenzie's director of programs. He joined the gallery in 2018 as the first Indigenous (Chickasaw) leader of both curatorial and education programs at a major Canadian art institution, the gallery says.
"He has been instrumental in the advancement of the gallery’s programs, diversity and revenue growth, especially through grants and new initiatives, such as the gallery’s new digital media lab," it says.
Hampton is co-chair of the board of directors for the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective, an Indigenous-run non-profit organization that supports and connects Indigenous curators, artists, writers and academics.
