Julie Fowler to Step Down at Island Mountain Arts
Julie Fowler, the longtime executive and artistic director of Island Mountain Arts, an artist-run centre in Wells, B.C. is stepping down in the fall.
The announcement came at the centre's recent annual general meeting and will take effect after after the Northern Exposure Conference, planned for Oct. 22 to Oct. 25.
Fowler began as a summer student in 2003, and went on to help organize the first ArtsWells Festival in 2004 and other projects, including artist residencies and an international harp and cello school.
"It has been such an honour to lead this incredible arts organization," Fowler says. "I have learned so much and had so many life changing experiences working in Wells."
Island Mountain Arts was founded in 1977 in the tiny Cariboo community.
Fowler has received a BC Achievement Foundation community award for championing the arts in Northern B.C.
Fowler says she plans to take a break and then start writing a book.
