Kent Monkman’s Show Extended in Winnipeg
The Winnipeg Art Gallery has extended Kent Monkman’s exhibition Shame and Prejudice: A Story of Resilience until Feb. 23.
The gallery said Winnipeg has shown great support for the show, which will make its last stop on a national tour at Vancouver’s Museum of Anthropology from May to October.
Monkman is an internationally known artist of Cree ancestry who grew up in Winnipeg and is now based in Toronto. He works with a variety of mediums, including painting, video, performance and installation.
Monkman's provocative depictions of Indigenous resistance throughout Canadian history tell important stories about the ongoing impact of colonialism.
