Kimberly Phillips to Head SFU Galleries
Kimberly Phillips has been hired as the director of SFU Galleries, effective mid-August.
Phillips comes from Vancouver's Contemporary Art Gallery, where she has been curator since 2017, and has also worked as the director and curator of Access Gallery. She has a doctorate in art history from the University of British Columbia.
"I fiercely believe in art as a tumultuous, inquisitive terrain that, at its best, creates space where critical questions can be asked, established systems of value interrogated and worlds imagined differently," said Phillips. "There is an enormous amount of work to be done in cultural institutions to dismantle their colonial foundations and systemic inequality."
Melanie O'Brian was the previous director of SFU Galleries.
