Large Commission for Brian Jungen
Brian Jungen will create a large piece of public art to sit outside the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The first public artwork commissioned by the Toronto gallery, it will be unveiled in the fall of 2020 on the southwest corner of Dundas and McCaul.
Jungen, of Indigenous and European heritage, is based in the North Okanagan and is internationally known for sculptures and installations made from repurposed consumer goods.
“Brian Jungen is one of the most important artists working today,” says gallery director Stephan Jost. "He has created innovative and culturally relevant works of art for more than 30 years, and his exhibition at the AGO this summer has been exciting and successful. I am confident this new work will be fully embraced by our community.”
Jungen’s show, Friendship Centre, closes on Aug. 25.
Henry Moore's Large Two Forms used to sit on the corner of Dundas and McCall. It was relocated in 2017 to Grange Park, south of the gallery.
