Leona Lattimer, who founded what is now the Lattimer Gallery, died June 25 in Vancouver, the gallery announced today.
She ran the gallery from 1986 to 2001, when she and her husband, David, retired.
"Through her relationships with Indigenous artists throughout B.C., she was able help create the thriving Northwest Coast Indigenous art market we know today," the gallery said.
"The hundreds of artists and thousands of customers Leona met and worked with were her true passion and is what helped form the lifelong friendships she had."
She is survived by three sons, Bradley, Scott and Kelly, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lattimer's celebration of life will be held July 25 at 6 p.m. in the main hall of UBC's Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver.
