Lind Prize Shortlist Announced
The Polygon Gallery has announced the 11 finalists for this year's Lind Prize.
They are Claire Geddes Bailey, Evan Berg, Roxanne Charles, Garnet Dirksen, Jessica Johnson, Aaron Leon, Christian McGinty-Steele, Lilian Rose Smith, Ryan Stella, Weronika Stepien and Ran Zhou.
The winner, to be announced May 21, will receive $5,000 toward the commissioning of a new work to be shown at the Polygon in 2020.
Established in 2016, the prize is awarded annually to an emerging artist based in British Columbia.
In past years, nominations were limited to students in BFA or MFA programs working in film, photography or video. This year, emerging artists working outside academic institutions were also eligible. Some 50 artists were nominated.
An exhibition of work by the 11 finalists will be presented at the Polygon from May 17 to June 9.
The jury includes writer and art collector Claudia Beck; Jesse Birch, the curator of the Nanaimo Art Gallery; and Vancouver artist Liz Magor.
