Lohman Steps Down at Royal B.C. Museum
Jack Lohman is stepping down as CEO of the Royal BC Museum in Victoria as it addresses "current internal issues," the institution's board of directors announced Tuesday.
"It was mutually agreed that his departure would be in the best interests of the organization," the board said in a statement published on the museum's website.
Lohman's departure comes amid news reports that the museum is undergoing a formal investigation into allegations of racism. As well, a recent workplace survey identified "a culture of fear and distrust."
Daniel Muzyka, chair of the board, will serve as the acting CEO until the position is filled.
Muzyka recently told Global News the museum was hiring a diversity inclusion consultant and implementing mandatory education programs for employees that would focus on trust-building, cultural training and working with Indigenous people.
Last summer, Lucy Bell, head of the First Nations department and repatriation program, cited racism and a toxic workplace in a farewell speech to her colleagues.
Lohman, who previously worked internationally as the director of the Museum of London, joined the B.C. museum in 2012.
