As well, three artists are selected to participate in the Sobey's international residency program and one artist for a residency at Fogo Island Arts in Newfoundland.
“I am thrilled by the calibre of the artists selected by the jury for this year’s long list," says Rob Sobey, the chair of the Sobey Art Foundation. "The diversity of backgrounds gets more exciting every year."
The jury is chaired by the National Gallery of Canada’s senior curator of contemporary art, Josée Drouin-Brisebois. Other members are Peter Dykhuis, director/curator of the Dalhousie Art Gallery; Jo-Ann Kane, curator of the National Bank Collection; Swapnaa Tamhane, independent curator, artist and writer; Lindsey Sharman, curator of the Art Gallery of Alberta; Nigel Prince, executive director of the Contemporary Art Gallery; and Henriette Bretton-Meyer, curator of Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen.
