Three Vancouver artists were among 11 people on the long list for this year's $50,000 Scotiabank Photography Award.
They are Marion Penner Bancroft, Althea Thauberger and Stephen Waddell.
Other artists on the long list are:

- Larry Towell, Bothwell, Ont.
The award, now in its ninth year, is a peer-nominated and peer-reviewed celebration of excellence in Canadian contemporary photography.
A jury of four photography experts will select a short list of three finalists, to be announced March 13. The jury includes artists Edward Burtynsky and Mark Lewis, as well as curators Candice Hopkins and Brian Sholis.
Along with $50,000, the winner, who will be named May 7, receives a solo exhibition during the 2020 Contact Photography Festival in Toronto, and a book deal with German publisher Steidl. The two finalists each receive $10,000.
The 2018 winner, Moyra Davey, will exhibit at the Ryerson Image Centre in Toronto during the Contact festival from May 1 to Aug. 4.
