MacKenzie Art Gallery launches app and contest for art lovers!
Regina, SK – Today, the MacKenzie Art Gallery launched a new app for iPhone and iPad and a new website, designed to boost people’s online engagement with the Gallery.
The MyMacKenzie app features a walking tour of the public sculptures around the Gallery, behind-the-scene videos by curators and artists, and event listings that allow people to RSVP and share invites with friends. In addition, the website streams Gallery visitor comments and encourages people to share their favourite
exhibitions and artwork with friends on Facebook and Twitter.
“We are very excited about the new mobile and social media experiences people can have with the MacKenzie,” says Executive Director, Jeremy Morgan. “We are one of the first galleries in Canada to connect with people through a mobile app and we are ahead of the curve in terms of encouraging people to share their experiences on Twitter using discreet hashtags for each of our exhibitions and events.”
The social media networks are already a buzz. A launch contest that gets people to share why they love art has people Tweeting away. Hetherinregina says, “@AtTheMAG
I love art because it helps me express what words often can’t. #MAGftw #yqr” and Catherine_Ready says,” @ AtTheMAG I love art b/c it’s expressive, beautiful, fulfilling & can be personal or collaborative. Everyone needs art in their life #MAGftw”
“The contest is our way of reaching out and asking the community to talk about why art matters to them,” says Marketing and Communications Manager, Kim Lear. “Moving beyond the Gallery walls to meet people where they are is key to weaving the MacKenzie, and the visual arts, through the social fabric of Saskatchewan.”
The website and app were funded by the Canadian Interactive Fund at Canadian Heritage and developed by Zu, a Saskatchewan company doing leading-edge mobile and web development. Jeremy Morgan points out that “It says a lot that the Government of Canada through the Canadian Heritage made a significant investment in this project and we certainly appreciate their support. These new tools will help us connect with our audiences in new ways, get feedback, generate public discussion and help people feel more connected to the Gallery.”
