Olivia Ansell has been appointed as the new artistic director of Luminato Festival Toronto. She will create her first festival program in 2025.
The current festival director of Sydney Festival and former head of contemporary performance for the Sydney Opera House in Australia, Ansell is an arts curator, performer, choreographer and executive who has had roles with both non-profit and commercial art ventures. Highlights have included the immersive experience Frida Kahlo: The Life of an Icon, which saw 86,205 attendees.
“Ansell's dedication to cultural storytelling, audience engagement and animating place will help deepen Luminato’s impact as a cultural city-building organization,” says Celia Smith, Luminato's CEO. “She has a natural talent for understanding the pulse of a city and presenting it in an authentic manner."
