MacKenzie Gallery Opens Digital Portal for New Media Art
The MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina has launched Landscapes of Digital Art, a new media art web portal,
The portal is the result of two years of digital programming that aimed to expand digital art literacy across Saskatchewan.
Funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, it evolved from in-person digital arts workshops and other activities, and now exists as a digital publication of dozens of resources and artist-led conversations.
The gallery’s digital consultants, Cat Bluemke and Jonathan Carroll, experimented with various forms of online programming to highlight the work of dozens of contemporary digital artists, scholars and curators.
The portal houses these projects as an active archive made up of six sections, each guided by its own theme: Virtual Galleries, World Building, Indigenous Futurism, Virtual Bodies, Creating on Platforms and Video Games as Art.
These sections offer resources for understanding digital art and its influence in the contemporary art world. They also include hands-on studio activities that can be done in classrooms or at home.
