Randy Joynt is returning to Winnipeg as executive director of the Manitoba Arts Council, effective Aug. 6.
Roberta Christianson, the council's chair, described Joynt as "a strong and dynamic advocate" who has contributed immensely to Manitoba’s arts and culture sector.
He succeeds acting executive director Debra Solmundson.
Joynt began his career as a dancer with Contemporary Dancers in Winnipeg, Le Groupe de la Place Royale in Ottawa, and O Vertigo Danse in Montreal. He then co-founded the TRIP dance company in Winnipeg with his partner Karen Kuzak and began his transition to arts administration.
Joynt was the executive director of Winnipeg's Artspace from 2008 to 2016. He developed a bookkeeping service for arts organizations and, with partners, launched ArtSupport Manitoba, which worked to increase cultural engagement in the community.
For the last three years, Joynt has been the manager of external affairs for the Royal and McPherson Theatres Society in Victoria, B.C.
