Marc Mayer, the former director of the National Gallery of Canada, has been appointed as the director of Arsenal Contemporary Art New York, effective Aug. 1.
"Mayer has held a number of directorships across some of the most prominent art institutions in both Canada and the United States and is widely recognized for his significant contributions to the arts," Arsenal announced on LinkedIn.
"We are delighted to welcome him and have full confidence in his ability and vision to carry out Arsenal's primary mission to promote Canadian art internationally."
Mayer was director of the National Gallery from 2008 to 2019. He has also worked as director of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal and the Power Plant in Toronto, as well as deputy director of the Brooklyn Museum in New York City and the curator of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, N.Y.
