Mariana Muñoz Gomez Wins Platform Photography Award
Mariana Muñoz Gomez, winner of the Platform Photography Award, explores identity, place, representation and language.
The annual award includes a solo exhibition and $1,500 in cash.
“As an immigrant living in Canada, I attempt to address my identity as both a diasporic “other” and settler, says Gomez. "Through my art practice, I aim to address colonialism and its impact on racialized and Indigenous people in the Americas."
Gomez is an artist, arts educator and arts administrator based in Winnipeg. She has exhibited in artist-run centres and alternative spaces throughout Winnipeg, including aceartinc. and Martha Street Studio, and presented a solo exhibition, ESL, at Le Studio, La maison des artistes in 2017. She has shown her work nationally at 918 Bathurst as part of Toronto’s Contact Photography Festival and at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
