Michale Lang retires as ED of Whyte Museum

Michale Lang, Executive Director of the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies has announced her decision to retire from the Museum.

Michale has been an important member of the Whyte Museum team for the past five years. With her inspired vision and curatorial expertise Michale has created a valuable legacy of successful and innovative exhibitions such as: The Art of Robert Bateman; Grizzly!; Women Adventurers in The Rockies; Yellowstone to Yukon: The Journey of Wildlife Art and many more. Several books that she has authored to accompany these exhibitions will serve as a further legacy.

According to Tristan White-Jones, Chair of the Whyte Museum's Board of Directors, "Michale has been a valued member of recent strategic planning and fund development planning processes and spearheaded the crucial upgrading of our storage facilities. She has been active in promoting the Whyte Museum and has fostered and strengthened many community partnerships." Michale continues to be a strong advocate for arts and cultural attractions as essential to a positive and enriching experience of the Canadian Rockies for both visitors and community members alike.

White-Jones added, "For many years to come the Whyte Museum will benefit from Michale's leadership in the design and creation of the Gateway to the Rockies exhibition. In her own words introducing this wonderful exhibition documenting 10,000 years of cultural heritage in the Canadian Rockies, Michale not only described those who came before, but herself as well: "The men and women who explore, inquire and adventure here are tough, resilient, curious and intelligent." With such traits, she will undoubtedly flourish in her chosen endeavours. We wish Michale all the best in all her future adventures in the Canadian Rockies."

Michale expressed the following, "I have very much enjoyed curating exhibitions because the Whyte Museum's collection is so rich, but I am increasingly interested in writing. This move will give me more time to pursue other opportunities including my passion for words."
