More Layoffs at Banff Centre
The coronavirus pandemic has led to the permanent layoff of 284 workers at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
“Social distancing and gathering restrictions make it difficult, and in some cases prohibitive, for Banff Centre to reopen its normal business at this time,” the centre said in an online note posted June 10.
An additional 100 people remain on temporary layoff, leaving 123 fully employed.
The centre also cancelled in-person events for the summer and fall. Some have been moved online — 17 virtual courses are to start in September. It hopes to run some artist residencies from January to March.
