New CEO for Glenbow
Nicholas R. Bell is the new president and CEO of the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, effective Nov. 1.
Originally from Vancouver, Bell has been working as senior vice-president for curatorial affairs at the Mystic Seaport Museum, a maritime museum in Mystic, Conn.
He has also worked as a curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery, in Washington, D.C., and has written and edited 10 books on art, museums and contemporary culture.
Bell says he is captivated by the Glenbow's evolution, which includes major renovations to the building.
“Our focus will be to share stories and collections in ways that provide inspiration to Calgarians and visitors from around the world," he says. "We are also committed to reintroducing Glenbow to Canada, with the caliber of building worthy of this city’s potential on the national arts and culture scene.”
Bell replaces Donna Livingstone, who left the Glenbow earlier this year to become CEO of the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alta..
