Heather Benning has been appointed director of the Art Gallery of Swift Current in southwestern Saskatchewan.
Benning – a visual artist with a practice rooted in the land of rural Saskatchewan – holds a Master's degree in sculpture from the University of Edinburgh. Last year, her work was included in borderLINE: 2020 Biennial of Contemporary Art at the Remai Modern in Saskatoon.
Benning has been on the long list for the Sobey Art Award and is a recipient of the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor's Award.
She has developed art workshops for adults and children in Redvers, Sask., and has also worked with CARFAC Saskatchewan – an arts advocacy organization – as an artist mentor, focusing on engagement with rural artists.
