New Executive Director at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre in Edmonton
The Board of Directors at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre recently announced the hiring of the new Executive Director, Jacek Malec. He joins as the institution goes through a period of change and growth. The Board expressed confidence that with these new developments Harcourt House will continue to serve Alberta with important initiatives for the artists and the wider Edmonton community.
Malec comes to Harcourt House from Calgary where he was the Chief Curator of Art Forum Gallery. He graduated in Art History, Museology and Curatorial Studies at the University of Wroclaw in Poland and has over 25 years of experience in the arts and culture community, having previously held roles as Director/Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary (previously the Triangle Gallery of Visual Arts) and the Chief Curator of Collections at the Aero Space Museum of Calgary. Jacek is a well-known art historian, critic, and lecturer with extensive international curatorial experience in Canadian and international modern and contemporary visual/new media arts, architecture and design with a track record of scholarly researched publications and exhibition projects, including creation of International Art Exchange Program while at the Triangle Gallery and MOCA Calgary. In 2014, he was elected to the Board of Governors of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) – Canadian Chapter, where he currently holds a position of Vice-President..Jacek is passionate about Canadian contemporary arts and connecting Alberta artists to Canada and around the globe.
