City of North Vancouver Approves Rezoning for Presentation House Gallery
Acclaimed photography and media arts institution Presentation House Gallery is on its way to building a landmark new facility, after a resounding 6-1 vote in favour of the project by the City of North Vancouver Council.
“We’re thrilled that this project will now move forward,” says Gallery director Reid Shier, “The City of North Vancouver has shown great vision in their plan to revitalize the city’s waterfront and we could not be happier to be a part of it.”
“I am very pleased to see Presentation House Gallery take this important step towards a brand new facility in Lower Lonsdale,” says City of North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto, “The Gallery has consistently offered high-calibre programming in photography and media arts, and the new building will be an outstanding addition to the city’s waterfront.”
The new Presentation House Gallery has been designed by renowned BC firm Patkau Architects, and will be Greater Vancouver’s only waterfront art museum. Visible from around the harbour, the new building is destined to become the city’s newest landmark when it opens.
Presentation House Gallery was founded in 1976, in a small heritage building shared with several other North Vancouver arts institutions. Over the past thirty years, the Gallery has built a stellar national and international reputation for its cutting-edge exhibitions of photography and media arts. Artists exhibited include famed Canadians Stan Douglas, Rodney Graham, and Fred Herzog, as well as international artists such as Andy Warhol and Ansel Adams.
The new Presentation House Gallery will cost $15-million, of which $2.5-million is funded by the City of North Vancouver. The new Gallery is expected to open in 2017.
