New work by Robin Arseneault has been unveiled this week in Calgary.
The work, entitled Balancing Act, is comprised of three sculptures and is located at the front entrance of BLVD Beltline, 1229 Macleod Tr. SE, Calgary.
The work explores “ideas of imagined spectacle and the desired state of balance, while acknowledging the area’s histories and the site’s proximity to the nearby Stampede Park and developing East Victoria Park,” according to the news release.
Balancing Act is Arseneault’s first public art commission in Calgary. She holds a bachelor of fine arts from AUArts and a master of fine arts from the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. In 2008, she received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and she was a semifinalist for the Sobey Art Award in 2007. She has had her work in solo and group shows across Canada and internationally, including at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Art Gallery of Alberta, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Esker Foundation and Nickle Galleries. She lives in Calgary, where she is represented by Norberg Hall.
Ellen Cunningham Art Consulting and Ciara McKeown of CMCK Public Art directed the project, and the art was fabricated by Carvel Creative in Calgary, with Harman Sculpture Foundry Ltd.
