New Publication on Maureen Gruben
Maureen Gruben's QULLIQ | 'A Handful of Stories' Project
Qulliq, a new volume from Emily Carr University Press, details the work of Maureen Gruben, an internationally recognized contemporary artist based in Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T.
Featured in the monograph are photos of work from Gruben's 2018 exhibition at the university's Libby Leshgold Gallery, with an introductory essay by the gallery's curator, Cate Rimmer.
A qulliq is a traditional oil lamp used to heat, cook and light the home during the dark Arctic winter.
Work in the show explored light and transparency related to the light of the oil lamp, as well as the translucence of ice.
