The Art Gallery of Ontario is planning a major $60-million expansion, including a six-storey tower. The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that the gallery has requested proposals from architects for the project, which would provide an additional 55,000 square feet of space. A gallery spokesperson said the project was "in its infancy" and confirmed it was needed to accommodate the gallery's growing global collection and exhibitions. The gallery's last expansion, led by architect Frank Gehry, opened in 2008. The AGO's collection has grown by more than 20,000 works over the last five years.
