We're saddened to learn that Victoria-area artist Robin Hopper died on April 6, 2017, at age 77.
Here is the "final post" - from Robin's family on his Facebook page:
Many of you will have already heard this from one source or another, but we are very sad to share the news that Dad - Robin Hopper - passed away early Thursday morning after a lengthy battle with liver cancer.
Dad has said that his parents always encouraged him to leave the world a better place than he found it. We think it is fair to say that he has definitely accomplished that beyond any expectations. He lived a rich life and made a significant impact on many people! He brought beauty to the world with his pots and his garden. He made a huge contribution to the art world with his books, videos, workshops and the organizations that he was involved in. And he even left a legacy - his Swansong video - that he hoped would continue to support arts programs for children and pediatric cancer research even after his death. His life was truly lived to the fullest!
We are touched by the messages of caring for our family and by the tributes and memories you are sharing. We are sure there will be many more to come - and we will continue to read and enjoy them - so thank you!
Dad loved teaching and sharing his knowledge and many of you probably met him because of that. Please know that he got as much out of sharing his passions as you may have received from his books, workshops or other mediums. And although he didn't have the time or energy to respond individually to all of the recognition, accolades and best wishes he received through Facebook, he read every comment and they never failed to lift his spirits. Your support has been especially important since his cancer diagnosis 20 months ago. He loved his Facebook friends and fans!
For everyone who has played a role - big or small - in Dad's full and amazing life, we thank you! And if Dad were writing this final post himself, we know it would close with a reminder to "dream big". "try it and see" and "always look on the bright side of life"!
