Nya Lewis to Head Artspeak in Vancouver
Nya Lewis will become the director and curator of Artspeak, an artist-run centre in Vancouver, in early September.
Lewis replaces Bopha Chhay, who has led Artspeak since 2016.
Lewis is an independent curator whose practice is rooted in love, resistance and diasporic cultural production.
Across the disciplines of art-making, programming, research, curating and writing, their work is driven by the possibilities of historical recovery and the reimagining of community.
Lewis, who holds an MFA, has worked with Capture, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, the Vancouver Public Library, the Centre for the Study of Black Canadian Diaspora, the UBC Museum of Anthropology and other institutions.
