YATES, Edward Norman R.C.A. We announce with great sadness that on February 9th, 2014, Norman Yates, 90, passed away. Born in Calgary on the 7th of September, 1923, the son of the late Albert Martin Yates and Maud Yates (nee Cranston), Norman brought love to those around him and shared the joy of his remarkable artistic creativity with the world. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Whynona, siblings Renee and Albert (Bill), and granddaughter Leah but lives on in the endearing memories of his children, Anthony and Janice; his grandchildren, Erin, David, Whynona and Janine; great-grandchildren, Niko and Tyson and extended family in other parts of Canada and in England. Norman was a gentle, intelligent, very loving man who brought happiness to his family, friends, former students and fellow artists. His steady, loving support, tireless creativity, love of life and humour will be profoundly missed by everyone around him. Norman was a radar technician in World War II, was a Professor of Fine Arts at the University of Alberta for 33 years and after moving to Victoria in 1987, continued as one of Canada's most respected artists until his unexpected and sudden passing. We have been very fortunate to have Norman in our lives. His paintings continue to radiate the passion for life that he brought to all of us. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 1, 2014 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria.
