The Ociciwan Contemporary Art Collective will open a non-profit Indigenous art centre in Edmonton in the late summer of 2019.
It is be a non-profit, collective-run centre open to all without admission fees or memberships.
Since 2015, Ociciwan has been operating without a physical space, partnering with local arts organizations such as Latitude 53 Contemporary Visual Culture, dc3 Art Projects, the Art Gallery of Alberta and the Francis Winspear Centre for Music.
In addition to a main floor gallery, the centre includes community space, a resource library, meeting rooms, offices for rent and a kitchen.
It is designed by Rockliff Pierzchajlo Kroman Architects and will be located in downtown Edmonton at 9604-101A St.
The centre will present at least four contemporary exhibitions or projects each year accompanied by community outreach activities.
