Ottawa Invests $4 Million for Mental Health at OCAD University
The federal government is spending nearly $4 million to help students at Toronto's OCAD University improve their mental health.
The mindful campus initiative aims to help students flourish in an uncertain world by developing resilience and coping skills.
The funding is part of the government's pledge to invest $100 million to support mental health and prevent mental illness in populations disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Carolyn Bennett, the mental health and addictions minister.
"Our government recognizes that the pandemic has added greatly to the pre-existing mental health and substance use challenges that many students and young people face," said Bennett. "This is especially true for marginalized and racialized young adults."
The initiative is a partnership with art schools at Concordia University in Montreal, York University in Toronto, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University in Halifax and Toronto's Seneca College.
