Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Pablo Rodriguez – who was government leader in the House of Commons – as Minister of Canadian Heritage. Rodriguez held the role previously from 2018 to 2019, and is also the government's Quebec lieutenant.
“It is a great privilege to return as Minister of Canadian Heritage and to continue to deliver for Quebec as Lieutenant,” Rodriguez tweeted Tuesday after the new Liberal cabinet was appointed. “There is a lot of work to do and I will continue to defend our culture and our artists every day.”
He replaces Steven Guilbeault, who becomes the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
Rodriguez inherits a ministry that recently tried and failed to pass a bill to update the Broadcasting Act to give Ottawa the power to regulate commercial content on platforms like Netflix.
