PAVED Welcomes Executive Director Travis Cole
The Board of PAVED Arts reports that 2017 was a remarkable year with a focus on innovative programming, enhanced community engagement, and recognizing outstanding donors. They celebrated becoming a fully sustainable organization, a rapidly growing membership base, and the active and amazing creative community in Saskatoon.
Last month, the Board also said goodbye to Executive Director Alexander Rogalski, who has provided exceptional leadership since 2013. Alex has been a driving force behind PAVED Arts’ successful growth from being simply operational to becoming a fully sustainable organization, leading the way for installing solar power on our roof top, and finally completing the building renovations that will allow PAVED Arts to continue to increase its support of local arts development. PAVED Arts wishes Alex all the best in his new role as Program Consultant at the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and our sincerest gratitude for his contributions to PAVED.
The Board of PAVED Arts has announced Travis Cole as the new Executive Director of PAVED Arts. "We feel very fortunate to be working with someone so committed and passionate about the arts and our community," said Board Chair Mark Ferguson."On behalf of the PAVED Board of Directors, I would like to welcome Travis as our new Executive Director."
As an active member of Saskatoon’s art community, Travis brings to PAVED over 20 years of experience in photography, media art, sound-based work, and film. Since moving back to Saskatoon in 2013, he has been the Managing Editor of BlackFlash Magazine, a national contemporary visual arts magazine with a focus on photography and new media; co-curator of Saskatoon’s annual Sounds Like: An Audio Festival; and co-founder of the Unheard Sound Collective. Prior to moving to Saskatoon, Travis lived in Winnipeg where he co-founded the micro-cinema collective Open City Cinema (OCC) and helped launch the annual Winnipeg Underground Film Festival (WUFF) in 2013. He has also worked for WNDX Festival of Moving Image, Border Crossings Magazine, and Video Pool Media Arts Centre. Travis has degrees in photography and film studies from Concordia University in Montreal. Travis will oversee the first issue of BlackFlash Magazine’s 35th anniversary volume, before starting duties as PAVED Arts Executive Director in January.
“Over my last four years at BlackFlash Magazine, I have been fortunate to have worked closely with the staff of PAVED Arts due to BlackFlash's offices being in the same building, and am beyond thrilled to be the newest member of the organization,” remarks Travis. “With the support of PAVED’s incredible staff and board, I am certain that I’ll be able to bring something unique to the position. Alex Rogalski's hard work as executive director for PAVED, ensures that the organization is in a great place for me come on board, and I am honoured to be offered this opportunity.”
