Pendulum Gallery – New Display System Coming January 2015!

A new exhibition display system is coming to the Pendulum Gallery in the HSBC building, 885 West Georgia Street. Designed by Vancouver Architect Marko Simcic, the revamped exhibition system will incorporate two large pivoting walls, gallery specific lighting and a wireless security system. The walls ingeniously combine internal storage for gallery materials, desks and additional panel walls with an exterior surface for the display of art. The large pivoting walls and twelve additional panels allow numerous options for configuring the exhibition display area.

The walls are made from white painted steel for durability and strength and will accommodate a new type of hanging system that utilizes earth magnet hooks and clasps for small and mediumsized works and for larger works, adjustable wires that connect to a reveal at the top of the wall, providing a great deal of flexibility for installing artworks.

As part of the gallery upgrade, the main display area is being moved from the centre of the Atrium space to the area on the west side, to take advantage of structural connections and access to power. This will allow better movement and functioning of the space, define a specific Gallery display area in the atrium itself, and allow Alan Storey’s iconic Pendulum Sculpture the breathing room in deserves.

These changes will greatly improve what is already a well-used and highly visible cultural space, enabling the gallery to display a wide range of visual art exhibitions in a way that vastly improves the experience for the public, tenants and visitors to the building.
